Will people actually use it?

It’s much easier to build a product than it used to be. You still need to find people who want it. I can help you work out which problem to solve, test the assumptions and build a first version that tells us something useful.

Some questions to start with

  • Who has this problem, and what do they do about it now?
  • What has to be true for this to work?
  • What could we find out before spending months building it?

How I can help

Get specific about the problem

Who are we building for? What are they trying to do? What is wrong with the way they do it now? I’d start there, talk to potential users and work out which part is worth tackling first.

Test the assumption that could kill the idea

A prototype might tell us whether the technology works. We may also need to find out whether people will pay, change how they work or persuade someone else to use it. I want to test whatever could stop the product succeeding.

Build enough to learn

I build products myself, so I can get into the detail with you. For an AI product, that includes whether the answers are useful, what it costs to run and where a person still needs to be involved. Then we put it in front of people.

What you should have afterwards

  • A clear idea of who the product is for and why they would use it.
  • A prototype or test that answers an important question.
  • Enough evidence to decide what to build next, change or drop.

Work I’ve done

A product I built myself ↗

With sunday.style, I worked through the product and built the software. It’s an example of the detail I like getting into.

Working with me

We could work through the idea and build a prototype together. I’d want access to potential users and a clear question to answer. If the idea needs to change, that is a useful result too.

Projects start at £10,000. We’ll agree the work and the fee before starting. Fractional leadership and ongoing work are agreed separately. I work throughout the UK and remotely in Europe and the US.

Do we need a product already?

No. An idea and access to people who might need it can be enough to start. We need something important to find out.

Can you build the first version?

Yes, where that is the right way to test the idea. Sometimes we can learn enough from a simpler prototype or by doing part of the work manually.

Let’s talk.
